The age of confirmation
The Diocese of Greensburg is currently in a period of transition in regard to the age of receiving the sacrament of confirmation. During this period of transition, the parishes of the diocese are assigned to one of three “blocks” of parishes that will celebrate the sacrament of confirmation every three years.
This transitional period will end in 2016 when the normative age for receiving this sacrament in the Diocese of Greensburg will be the eighth grade.
St. Mary, Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish is assigned to Block 1, which will hold confirmation during the 2012-13 school year for children in fourth grade, and during the 2015-16 school year for children in sixth grade. Religious formation for receiving the sacrament of confirmation is part of the curriculum of our parish religious education program and The Divine Redeemer Catholic School, Ford City.
Children must regularly attend either our parish religious education program or The Divine Redeemer Catholic School in order to be properly prepared and eligible to receive the sacrament of confirmation. The sacrament of confirmation will be administered in our parish, by the bishop, to children in these grades who have been properly prepared during the assigned school year on a date determined by the diocese.
